Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent for NBC News two year later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. Then, in 1992 she was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both a host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal as well as budget tax reforms and the arms control. Mitchell traveled along with President Ronald Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss matters like the Iran Contra scandal.
